A man’s car has been impounded after he was allegedly clocked driving more than double the speed limit in Melbourne overnight.

Police claim they first spotted the Toyota 86 driving with other modified cars along Beaconsfield Parade in Albert Park at about 10pm.

The driver was allegedly detected travelling at 125km/h in a 60km/h zone while also weaving through three north-bound lanes.

Police pulled the vehicle over and allegedly found that three of the four wheels were missing wheel nuts.

According to the police release, officers were “shocked” by the discovery.

The car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $896.

Police expect to charge a 26-year-old Carlton man on summons in relation to various driving charges.
