Missing Teen Found Dead in River With Wrists Tied With Phone Charger Cord

A man found in a North Carolina river in 2021 drowned and had his wrists bound with a cell phone charging cord, an autopsy released on Tuesday revealed.

Jose Ramirez, 19, was found in the Swannanoa River near Asheville a week after he vanished from a party in September 2021. Investigators told WLOS that Roberto Robles-Ramirez, 44, and Samuel Gonzalez De La Cruz, 31 had fought with Ramirez at that party before he disappeared.

According to WLOS, a recently-released autopsy report stated that Ramirez’s wrists were tied behind his back with a cell phone charging cord. No other traumatic injuries were observed but fluid was in his lungs and sinus — leading investigators to determine he was drowned.

In October, Robles-Ramirez and De La Cruz were charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder. They remain at large. Asheville police said they believe the pair have fled the country.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               For the latest true crime and justice news, subscribe to the ‘Crime Stories with Nancy Grace’ podcast.
