Backlash Against DeSantis Remarks on Ukraine Reveals a Dangerous GOP Divide

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wrote a letter to other governors asking for help in securing the southern border. In Biden’s America, every state is a border state. The State of Texas is doing all it can – funded with Texas taxpayer dollars – but one state can not bear the burden alone. The first to respond to the governor’s letter are the governors of Florida and Idaho.

Axios reports about the responses from Governors DeSantis and Little.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he’ll send resources and over 1,100 to Texas — including 800 state National Guard members, 200 law enforcement officers in teams of 40 and five aircrafts.

DeSantis said Florida “stands ready to help defend the southern border and is deploying assets to aid Texas’ border security crisis.”
Meanwhile, Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) said he will send state police to support Texas officials at the southern border.

“With the help of states like Idaho, we continue to fill dangerous gaps created by Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott said.
Idaho officials had yet to announce how many officers they will deploy. The governor’s office did not immediately respond to Axios’ request for comment.

This isn’t the first time DeSantis has acted in response to Abbott. In 2021, DeSantis sent 100 law enforcement officers to Texas to help on the southern border. Previous to that, DeSantis sent 50 troopers. Governor Little sent Idaho State Police troopers to the border to assist with intelligence gathering.

In addition to other support, DeSantis is sending 101 state highway patrol troopers, 20 Florida Fish and Wildlie Conservation Commission Officers and 20 emergency management personnel. The emergency management personnel include radio technicians, logisticians, mechanics, and planners. It is a generous show of support.

Governor Little gets it.

The out-of-state personnel will assist Abbott’s Operation Lone Star. The initiative was launched two years ago in response to Biden’s border crisis to combat drug and human smuggling into Texas from Mexico. So far, the state has spent $4.5B on border security since 2021.

In 2022, with Title 42 in place, Border Patrol agents apprehended 2.3 million illegal migrants, an all-time record. The numbers may be down for now but there is still a humanitarian and national security crisis on the border. Last week, Hidalgo County Judge RIchard Cortez issued a weeklong disaster declaration because hundreds of illegal migrants gathered on the bank of the Rio Grande River in Brownsville. Also, officials in El Paso converted two vacant middle schools into migrant shelters. Currently, migrants are being released into the streets of El Paso due to overcrowding in shelters. The Biden border crisis is unsustainable. It’s important to remember that it is an intentional crisis. This is what President Norms wanted all along, otherwise it would never have happened. He was left with a border as secure as possible when he came into office. Policies and agreements were in place to continue on yet Biden stopped it all with executive actions during his very first day in office. It’s a dereliction of duty. He doesn’t care. Why don’t enough Republicans and Democrats in Congress? If anything is an impeachable offense it is failing to protect the country’s borders. Without borders, there is no country.
