A controversial anti-vax influencer and her boyfriend have been fined after police found a stolen passport while searching their home.

Kate Szepanowski and Jordan Roman Brennan, from Gold Coast, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court to receiving tainted property in April.

Brennan was handed a $1,000 fine with a conviction recorded, while Szepanowski was fined $750 and had no conviction recorded.

Police raided the couple’s home on July 14, 2020, with a search warrant for an unrelated matter and found the Australian passport along with a driver’s licence, according to court documents, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

The court heard that Brennan was convicted of possessing a large quantity of stolen cash in 2014 in Perth, and Szepanowski was sentenced in New South Wales in 2018 for having goods which were suspected of being stolen.

In sentencing, Judge John Allen noted the couple’s relationship was stable and that they were expecting a second child.

‘I am told you have a good employment history and that you are currently self-employed in a courier business, which, given the hours that you work, apparently produces such income that you do have the capacity to pay a fine,’ Judge Allen said of Brennan.

‘Ms Szepanowski, you are also self-employed, both in your own business but also as a carer for a disabled person. I infer, also, that you have the capacity to pay a substantial fine.’

Szepanowski’s work with NDIS was considered by the judge, who said he was concerned a conviction would have a ‘deleterious effect’ on her economic and social wellbeing.

Szepanowski runs an instagram account with more than 121,000 followers where she posted anti-vax sentiments during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘This is why I would rather die than get that poison injected into me,’ she wrote alongside one picture of vaccine misinformation.

In another in August 2020 she said: ‘Covid-19 = false news. NEXTTTTT.

The posts were quickly deleted from her social media after causing controversy.
