A teenage girl has died after she was trapped under a tram in Sydney’s CBD late last night.

Emergency services were called to George Street at Haymarket after reports a girl had become trapped under a light rail tram just after midnight.

After police and fire crews freed the 16-year-old, she was treated by paramedics for critical injuries but died at the scene.

The driver of the tram, a 52-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are now working to determine what led to the incident.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner,” police said.

All light rail services are not running between Central and Circular Quay due to the incident, Transport for NSW said this morning.
