Publishing heir James Fairchild, son John arrested for domestic violence

Publishing heir James Fairchild and his son, John, were both arrested March 20, 2023, for domestic violence against two people — but there are conflicting stories in the police report obtained by Page Six.

According to James and John, escalated “tension” within the Naples, Fla., household, prompted a minor male to start a verbal altercation with John.

Page Six is keeping the victims’ identities anonymous as it’s a domestic violence case.

Shortly thereafter, the Fairchilds claim the minor male “grabbed a knife from the counter and began to approach John,” the documents state.

The adult female victim then allegedly got involved and attempted to separate John and the minor male, and accidentally tore John’s shirt. The minor male then allegedly “struck John twice in the left shoulder/neck area,” according to the police report.

However, the officer on the scene noted that both James and John were “inconsistent” with the details of the knife but added that “James stated that at no point did he or his son touch [the victims].”

In the adult female’s version of events, she claims she walked into the home and found John “pushing” the minor male. While attempting to separate the two, the adult female claims John shoved her to the ground, which “dislocated her right ring finger.”

The police statement also notes that the minor male “had markings to both sides of his neck consistent with having been chocked [sic] by” James and adds that he also had “a large area of broken skin” due to John allegedly “kicking him.”

Both John and James were escorted to Naples Jail Center without incident. The conditions of James’ release, which cost him $2,000, state that he must not possess any firearms and he must not return to the location of the incident.

The Fairchilds’ attorney didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment. There is a pretrial hearing scheduled Monday.

Nearly four years ago, James – whose famous divorce from Whitney St. John made headlines for years – was accused of punching a woman in the face, though he maintained his innocence.

He posed for a police mugshot but charges were not pursued. “There were no charges because I proved I was not there at the house, and this incident never happened,” he insisted at the time.

In 2014, James found himself in another domestic incident with then-girlfriend Dr. Christine Borelli Grout. The couple split and then entered into a legal battle over money and a missing $250,000 check.

His attorney, Michael Stutman, said at the time, “He is under no obligation to support Miss Borelli or her children. She sounds rather desperate.”
