The verdict was not what the Yankees wanted.
After several days of deliberation, Aaron Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, the latest and largest blow to the reeling Yankees.
Judge had been fighting to stay active after suffering what the club is calling a right hip strain that knocked him out of Thursday’s win in Texas.
The slugger sat for three games against the Rangers — all Yankees losses, in which they scored a total of four runs — and was put on the shelf before the club began a series Monday in The Bronx against the Guardians.
Judge will be out the duration of the Cleveland series and, more importantly, the entirety of this weekend’s three-game showdown against the first-place Rays in Tampa.

Judge, whose injured list stint is retroactive to Friday, will be eligible to return Monday against the A’s.
According to manager Aaron Boone, Judge was set to work out, throw and perhaps hit ahead of Monday’s game before the club and player came to a decision.
“I think Aaron’s also being realistic, too. He understands what’s at stake, and what’s important,” Boone said before the decision was reached. “We’re having real conversations … [We] want to understand where we are in the season, with whatever, 130 games to go, and obviously, how important he is. We want to make sure we’re in a good spot there.”
The Yankees called up Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill the open roster spot.
