Friends and loved ones will farewell paramedic Steven Tougher at a celebration of his life today at the University of Wollongong, south of Sydney.
Tougher was allegedly stabbed to death while on a break at a McDonald’s in Campbelltown in mid-April.
Jordan Fineanganofo, 21, has been charged with the NSW Ambulance paramedic’s murder and will reappear in court in June.
Family, friends, dignitaries and paramedics will form a guard of honour to escort Tougher’s hearse today, while NSW Ambulance and NSW Police helicopters will fly over the procession.
“Steven’s dedication to helping others shone brightest during his work as a NSW Ambulance paramedic and previously as a nurse,” his family said in a statement following his death.
“But it wasn’t just his medical expertise that made him exceptional – Steven’s compassion touched the lives of so many people.
“He had a way of calming fears, offering words of solace, and showing kindness in the midst of chaotic or traumatic events.

“Steven had an uncanny ability to connect with people, to truly understand their needs, and to provide care with genuine warmth and empathy.
“He was always ready with a smile, a kind word, or a lending hand and brought joy to those around him.
“As we are still coming to terms with our loss, our family requests privacy at this time.”
Jeff Tougher said he wanted mandatory life sentences for any emergency service worker killed on the job and mandatory prison terms for anyone assaulted.
“I know that it will not affect this case but for any future hideous acts, maybe justice will be seen to be done,” he wrote on Facebook.
