A 69-year-old man has died after the crane he was operating rolled into a creek in Queensland, trapping him in the machinery.

Fire fighters and paramedics were called to Currumbin Creek, around 30km south of the Gold Coast, just after 8am local time, where they found the crane overturned into the steep embankment.

The man had reportedly been doing some work for a friend on their property when the incident occurred.

The forensic crash unit are investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
