A man was walking to his room at a Bayswater hotel on Saturday April 15 when three men jumped out of a silver Mazda and approached him with the weapons.
“There they assaulted the victim and he suffered serious injuries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Thompson said.
Thompson described it as a “short, intense” assault.
Thompson said the man suffered “multiple lacerations on his back, lacerations to his head, he received a fractured skull and subsequent bleeding on the brain”.
“Suffice to say it is very conceivable the victim may have died from his injuries. It is a very serious assault,” Thompson said.

The victim is now in a stable condition.
Thompson said police believe it is a targeted gang-related attack due to the “manner the offenders approached the victim”.
Thompson the three men are quite tall, strong build men but they are completely covered up making it difficult to identify.
