Cops Say Connected: 4 Dead in House in Maine, 3 More Shot on Maine Highway

Four people were found dead in a home in Bowdoin, Maine, Tuesday morning — shortly before reports of gunfire on Interstate 295 in Yarmouth, about 25 miles south.

Three people were shot, one critically, in the highway shooting, which Maine State Police said was connected with the deaths in Bowdoin, WMTW said.

One person was detained, officials said, but no names were released. No charges had been filed by late afternoon, but the town of Yarmouth referred to the person as a suspect and said investigators had recovered a firearm that was initially missing from the scene.

Police said one of the highway victims was in critical condition and another was in serious condition. The third person’s condition was unknown.

“We are confident that there is no imminent threat to the general public at this time,” said Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry, whose deputies were assisting state police in Bowdoin.

Maine State Police Lt. Randall Keaten told reporters Tuesday afternoon that investigators were working three scenes — the house in Bowdoin and two locations on the interstate, the Portland Press Herald reported.

“We’re working many different scenes,” Keaten said. “We’re just getting our arms around it.”

Police said they were initially searching for a second gunman “out of an abundance of caution,” but later said there was only a single suspect.
