Alabama Barker, the daughter of Travis Barker, is showing that the apple does not fall far from the tree when it comes to musical talent. However, some fans question her rapping abilities. On her TikTok livestream over the weekend, Alabama Barker shared a preview of a new rap song she’s been working on with her followers. A subtle bass groove and tinkling synths accompanied Alabama’s lip-synching during the stream. During the stream she rapped, He told me I wouldn’t make it/I said you’re crazy/My name is exotic/I get foreign texts when they pay me.

In response to someone asking whether she wrote the lyrics, Alabama replied, I wrote this all by myself. Though the song seemed innocent enough, many social media users criticized the 17-year-old’s lyrical abilities. According to another critic, Alabama rapping is cultural appropriation. In spite of the harsh criticism, Alabama Barker’s father is Travis Barker, he is the drummer for the pop-punk band called Blink-182. Furthermore, the performer has worked with some of the major names in the rap business including Jay-Z (“Jockin Jay-Z” Remix), Yo Gotti, Lil Nas X and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Alabama Barker Receives Backlash Online After Previewing Her New Rap Song
Alabama Barker has made headlines for teasing new rap music. Alabama Barker, daughter of Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, gave her followers a glimpse of what’s to come from her own music career. The stream featured Alabama lip-syncing along to an unreleased hip-hop track. In the stream video Alabama rapped, He told me I wouldn’t make it / I told him he was crazy. During a livestream chat, the 17-year-old revealed that she wrote the song alone in her room. She quickly received mixed reactions online to her rap song. On the track, some thought she was pretending to be black or playing a “Blaccent.” In addition, some criticized her for rapping about overcoming struggles as she comes from a wealthy and famous family. However, others defended her, arguing that since she is only 17, she can create whatever she wants. She received quite a bit of backlash on Twitter and other social media platforms, however, with the majority of reactions being negative. It appeared that many people expected her to perform rock music like her father, comparing her to him.

Previously, Travis Barker’s daughter Alabama Barker clapped back at someone who criticized her lip-synching the words, I used to f–k your homegirl but it ain’t like that, in a TikTok video. Other than singing a song, what am I saying in the video? the teen responded on TikTok. Furthermore, why are you concerned about someone who does not … affect your life in any way. As she continued, I don’t understand how singing a rap song on TikTok is disrespectful or gross. As one user wrote: what I find funny about Alabama Barker’s lil rap is that if she rapped about being rich and nepotistic she would actually sound great instead of sounding like she came from the gutter. According to another user, Willow Smith’s dad is a rapper and she’s making rock bangers…& Alabama Barker’s dad Travis is a member of Blink-182, who ran rock music for a while…& She’s making mediocre SoundCloud beats. Could this be Thanos’ “balance”? Another critic viewed the rockstar’s daughter Alabama rapping as cultural appropriation. According to the person, the Alabama Barker thing is just… I don’t know. Someone (preferably a parent) should have talked to miss girl about cultural appropriation. It’s not cute at all.
