Report: Slaven Bilic may be on West Ham United radar to replace Moyes

West Ham United could bring back former manager Slaven Bilic as a short-term replacement for under-fire boss David Moyes.

That is according to The Guardian, who claim that there have been noises about Bilic around the West Ham training ground.

It’s suggested that West Ham were seriously thinking of replacing Moyes had they lost to Fulham.

Top targets weren’t available at the time but there were whispers around Rush Green that Bilic could have made a return.

West Ham did end up beating Fulham 1-0 but the performance wasn’t really convincing enough to completely lift the pressure from Moyes.

Today’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal is a major boost but if the Hammers can’t build on this, Moyes could still lose his job before the end of the season.

Should that happen, it seems that Bilic could be the short-term solution West Ham turn to as they seek to stay up.

Where has Slaven Bilic been since his West Ham exit?

Bilic has already had two spells at West Ham; one as a player, one as a manager.

The Croatian became West Ham boss in 2015, some 18 years since leaving the club as a player.

Bilic immediately guided West Ham in the Europa League after a seventh-placed finish but building on that proved difficult.

Poor recruitment meant West Ham fell off under Bilic and he was sacked in November 2017, with Moyes replacing him.

The 54-year-old has been a real nomad since then, first heading to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.

Yet after just six wins in 20 games there, Bilic was sacked and ended up back in England with West Bromwich Albion.

Bilic won promotion to the Premier League but was again sacked just months into his top-flight return.

Beijing Guoan came calling in 2021 and Bilic spent a year there with a win rate of just 31%.

Back in September 2022, Bilic back to English football again as he replaced Rob Edwards as Watford boss.

Bilic didn’t last long though, taking charge of just 26 games before losing his job in March.

That means that Bilic has been through three jobs with under 30 games in charge since leaving East London.

Whilst Bilic knows West Ham and the fanbase, fans would surely have questions over whether he is really any better equipped than Moyes for this relegation fight.
