Brentford FC v Newcastle United - Premier League

Stan Collymore says Anthony Gordon did ‘nothing to warrant a big move to Newcastle United’ following his January transfer from Everton.

The 22-year-old departed Everton’s relegation battle for Eddie Howe’s Champions League fight with Newcastle in the winter, but his recent actions have caused a bit of a stir.

When Anthony Gordon was subbed during Newcastle’s win over Brentford over the weekend, he proceeded to show dissent towards his manager for taking him off.

Given that Everton supporters were critical of their former player’s actions, prior to his exit, and how he didn’t turn up to training.

These latest actions from Gordon haven’t gone down well, either.

Former Premier League striker Collymore made it clear that Gordon is a ‘disgrace’ and he is seemingly lucky to be at St James’ Park, as he told CaughtOffside.

“I, like many of you, have seen the clip of Anthony Gordon clashing with Eddie Howe after he was substituted off against Brentford on Saturday,” said Collymore.

“What on earth is he doing?! – He has done absolutely nothing to warrant a big move to Newcastle. Let’s be real here – the only reason he got that transfer is because he’s English, had five good games in an Everton shirt and the Toffees are skint.

“For Gordon to come off the pitch and take the time to walk over to the manager and have a go at him was an absolute disgrace.

“Every manager in the world would have seen that clip and will now be wondering if Gordon is a bad egg. Regardless of if he spends the rest of his career at St James’ Park or not, his actions last weekend aren’t going to do his reputation any good and will certainly damage his chances of representing England in the future.

“To treat a down-to-earth, decent guy like Howe that way, and during a time when everyone associated with Newcastle are buzzing as well, was just such a bad decision from the kid. He needs to issue a public apology as soon as possible and beg his manager for forgiveness because he just can’t do what he did and expect to come out the other side looking good. If he continues with this level of disrespect, Newcastle will move on from him very quickly.”

HOWE WILL MANAGE GORDON

The only person that matters at this moment is Howe. If he has no issue with Gordon’s reaction, then there is no problem.

Of course, there might have been a warning of some sort, or he might let him be because he is a young lad, who is passionate about playing.

But all of that will only last so long because, if he continues in these current ways without learning to mature, then he will be out of Newcastle’s doors quicker than he entered them.
