A Department of Environment and Science (DES) spokesperson said it was believed a 65-year-old man was reportedly bitten by the crocodile at Newell Beach last night.

“The information provided to DES suggests the man was reportedly bitten on the feet while sleeping on the beach and sought treatment for a minor injury,” the spokesperson said.

Wildlife officers from the DES will attend the region to confirm if a crocodile is in the area.

The man has not notified DES about the incident.

The suspected attack is one of many that have happened in the area this year.

The Queensland government has said the incident “is a timely reminder for people to be crocwise in croc country”.
