Arsenal now face missing out on Jeremie Frimpong with Manchester United now pressing ahead with talks for the Bayer Leverkusen star.
The Gunners may be in the market for another right back this summer due to Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injuries.
Ivan Fresneda was a top target in January and Edu may seek to add a more attacking right back option.
One name in the mix is thought to be Frimpong, with transfer insider Dean Jones claiming to Give Me Sport last week that Arsenal are keen.
Jones suggested that Arsenal were focusing on a new right back and Frimpong was just one of a number of targets.
Arsenal now face a real battle for Frimpong though as Manchester United have opened talks with his agent.
That’s according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who claims that United’s first round of talks for Frimpong have gone well.
Agent Jeffrey Lemmert is working on the move and Frimpong is understood to be open to leaving Leverkusen.
Erik ten Hag is a big fan of his fellow Dutchman and Arsenal may struggle to land him with United already pushing.

Jeremie Frimpong would be a risk for Arsenal or Manchester United
We can understood why Arsenal and United both want to sign Frimpong.
The former Manchester City talent has been an outstanding attacking threat for Leverkusen this season.
Eight goals and nine assists in 36 games for the Bundesliga club is simply outstanding and Frimpong is developing brilliantly.
Those kind of attacking numbers won’t go unnoticed and Frimpong could shine in the Premier League.
Yet it’s worth noting that Frimpong has been racking up these goals and assists whilst playing as a wing back for Leverkusen.
That role has suited Frimpong well and throwing him into a back four – the systems Arsenal and United utilise – would be a risk.
Frimpong isn’t particularly solid defensively and that could be a problem in a flat back four.
Frimpong is hugely exciting and has been hailed as hailed as ‘incredibly fast’ by Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes, but there are concerns surrounding the former Celtic man.
