The body of a 26-year-old man has been recovered from a dam after he fell off a boat.

A search and rescue operation began last night after reports a man fell overboard off a boat at Glenlyon Dam, about 200 kilometres south of Toowoomba, about 5:30pm on Sunday.

The search recommenced at first light this morning and involved a police dive squad, officers from Stanthorpe and Texas, water police and the SES.

A man’s body was found at 9am this morning.

It is understood the man is from Miles, in Queensland’s Western Downs Region.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the incident and efforts to identify the man are ongoing.

A 21-year-old man, also from Miles, was on board the boat at the time.

Sunwater, which owns and operates the dam, confirmed it will be closed to the public until further notice.
