Arsenal on red alert as Newcastle reportedly plan Moussa Diaby bid

Newcastle United want Moussa Diaby and are now preparing a club-record offer to sign the Bayer Leverkusen winger this summer.

That’s according to The Northern Echo, who claimed on Thursday that Newcastle are coming back in for Diaby.

It’s suggested that Newcastle have earmarked Diaby to play as the right winger in Eddie Howe’s 4-3-3 approach.

The report adds that Newcastle are willing to go past the £63million they paid to sign Alexander Isak last summer.

That kind of cash will be needed to sign Diaby, who was wanted by Newcastle last summer.

Newcastle would certainly have a better chance of pulling off this kind of deal if they can finish in the top four.

Yet as seen with Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Isak, Newcastle have pulling power without Champions League football – and Diaby could be next.

Arsenal now face a real battle for Moussa Diaby

The news of Newcastle’s renewed interest – and apparent commitment to a huge summer bid – will be bad news for Arsenal.

The Gunners have been chasing Diaby for two years now according to Fabrizio Romano’s claims in March.

Bild reporter Christian Falk also told Caught Offside in March that Arsenal have been in contact with Diaby’s agents.

Arsenal will now be firmly on red alert over these Diaby claims and may be minded to ramp up their move for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Arsenal could have major pulling power this summer, especially if they win the Premier League title, but a move for Diaby could be tricky.

A winger with blazing speed who loves to cut in from the right flank onto his left foot, Diaby wouldn’t be happy with just being backup to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Newcastle would be offering Diaby a starring role for years to come and that could give Arsenal a major problem.

Diaby has been superb again this season, racking up 12 goals and nine assists from the flanks.
