Tim Sherwood has hailed Newcastle United transfer target Scott McTominay as an ‘underrated’ and ‘undervalued’ figure for Manchester United and Scotland.
Over the international break, Scott McTominay turned into prime Frank Lampard when the hard-hitting Manchester United star netted four goals for his country.
At first, the 26-year-old came off the bench to net a brace as Scotland saw off Cyprus in their opening Euro 2024 qualifying game.

Then, he said ‘no bother’ to Spain and scored two more as Steve Clarke’s side recorded a historic and memorable win for the Scots at Hampden.
It’s a defining moment for McTominay and former Premier League boss Tim Sherwood spoke highly about the player, but he thinks he needs to leave in the summer, as he told talkSPORT.
“McTominay’s two goals were outstanding,” said Sherwood. “For me, he really is (underrated and undervalued). I don’t think he has really settled into a position.

“Is he a six or an eight? But you have to let him play. A lot of his game is about energy and getting up and down the field. He’s a box-to-box player.
“Is there a place for him at Man United? I think he needs to have a good look at his career now. He needs to play on a regular basis because he is that good.”

NEWCASTLE’S INTEREST IN MCTOMINAY
This is an interesting one because, over the years, McTominay has divided opinion amongst the Manchester United fan base.
There would have been many times when they would have been happy to see the back of their academy product.
But, fast forward to the present, and he is starting to show real quality under Erik ten Hag, but that transfer interest from Newcastle is around the corner. It has been suggested that Eddie Howe’s side could push for a summer move, as reported by The Telegraph.
