Police have launched a murder investigation after a pensioner in her 80s was tragically found dead following reports of a burglary in Somerset.
The woman was found seriously injured and died at the scene after officers rushed to a home in Broomfield, near Bridgwater, at 5.45pm on Monday.
Officers arrested a man in his 30s in the Broomfield area at about 8.40pm with the help of dogs and the National Police Air Service.
A specialist crime scene investigation team were at the home in Somerset’s Quantock hills while the man remains in custody.
Post-mortem tests are yet to be carried out but her next of kin has been informed.

Avon and Somerset Police have launched a murder probe and arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the death
The woman’s death comes after another pensioner in their 80s died yesterday after masked robbers burst into her seaside bungalow in Pakefield, Suffolk.
Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Justin French, from Avon and Somerset Police, said: ‘A cordon is in place while enquiries are carried out and there will be increased police activity in the area while a full and thorough investigation is carried out by our major crimes investigations team.
‘We understand that events like this, while rare, may cause alarm and distress in the community.
‘We would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to our officers, who will be out on high-visibility patrols of the area, with any concerns and questions they may have.
‘Alternatively, you can contact your local neighbourhood policing team.’
