wolves leeds

Ian Wright has spoken about the bonkers, jam-packed, stomach-turning and drama-filled relegation battle involving Leeds United, Southampton, Wolves, Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton, just to name a few.

A total of nine teams are trying to survive relegation from the Premier League this season, with Leeds United recently beating Wolves in a massive six-pointer, Crystal Palace still waiting for a win, as Everton and Southampton left it late in their respective matches against two London clubs.

West Ham United weren’t involved during the recent matches over the weekend because Manchester City were in FA Cup action, but it resulted in them falling into the relegation zone.

But who is going to drop? Can James Maddison stay out of the treatment room to keep Leicester up? Are Nottingham Forest conceding too many goals? Only -29 Bournemouth have a worse goal difference than the Midlands outfit (-27).

All in all, this is going to go down to the wire, as the nerves and steel of these players will seriously be tested to limits that they have never felt before.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright was used to the top of the table during his playing days, as he shared his thoughts on the drama at the bottom, as he told Premier League Productions (20/03/23 at 2:35 pm).

“I am really pleased for Leeds because Garcia has definitely got the bounce,” said Wright. “You can feel the fans. You can feel something with the players and how they celebrate together.

“You can always notice with the players when something happens because everybody comes to celebrate. Everybody is feeling it, so everyone is together. You feel that with Leeds. They feel together. They have their little bounce. It looks like they might save themselves. It’s tight.

“You have to look at the teams from Southampton, who are right at the bottom, to Palace. You have to look at the ones that are trending in the right direction. Southampton look like they have got the fight. I feel like Everton have got the fight. That’s what it comes down to.

“I look at Palace – they can’t feel sorry for themselves, for a minute, because teams are looking for those three points and teams are saying ‘let’s play Palace right now’. They need to find something quickly. Wolves are up and down. You don’t know what Lopetegui side you are going to get.”

BEST RELEGATION BATTLE EVER?

Those first few weeks back, after the international break, are going to be massive because you don’t want to drift away from the pack, or fall into the relegation zone and then do that.

There are nine teams currently scrapping it out, and come the final week of the season, if most of those teams are still involved, then it will, no doubt, go down as the greatest relegation battle of all time.

Not only that, given how tight it is, it wouldn’t be a surprise if a team does go down on goal difference alone this season, which would be even crazy than it already is.
