Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Andy Townsend says Chelsea contract rebel Mason Mount wouldn’t join Tottenham Hotspur because they have ‘no culture of winning anything’.

The former Premier League defender added that Mason Mount is used to winning trophies at Chelsea, with his most significant success coming when he assisted and helped his boyhood club win the European Cup.

But that might just be the only greatest-ever night in the 24-year-old career at Stamford Bridge because there is talk that he could leave in the summer – and Andy Townsend has backed a possible move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

It is a surprise to some that Mount could be heading for the exit in the summer because of how he has, previously, been such a key player for the London club – Tony Cascarino is backing Liverpool or Newcastle to get a deal done for Mount.

The 24-year-old has been injured of late, but Graham Potter has also started him on the bench for some big games in recent times, including against Tottenham and in the Champions League.

Nonetheless, when discussing Mount’s future, it was put to Andy Townsend that the Englishman would walk into Spurs’ XI, but he made it clear that he wouldn’t even join them, as he told talkSPORT (21/03/23 at 6:10 pm).

“He (Mount) has had a culture of winning at Chelsea, so he’s not going to get that at Spurs,” said Townsend.

“No culture of winning anything, so I don’t see Mason Mount wanting to literally go there.”

MOUNT NEEDS TO PICK HIMSELF UP

Some will argue that Mount has stagnated this season and is struggling to make Graham Potter’s XI.

Whilst he has since pulled out with injury, when Gareth Southgate initially called up the technically-gifted midfielder for England’s forthcoming matches, eyebrows were raised because of the player’s lack of form.

Whether it’s in the colours of Chelsea, or elsewhere, Mount needs to pick himself up again and get going because those previously consistent performances have gone out of the window.
