On March 13, 2023, he was loading cars on Interstate-70 when an alleged drunk driver, 26-year-old Sedina Nadiye, struck and killed him.
Officials said that Sedina Nadiye was driving on a suspended license at the time of the accident. Prior to the incident, he had three arrests for drunk driving, one of which dates back to 2015.
The GoFundMe page noted that if the fundraising initiative is successful, they hope to transport Yuri Vakhniak’s body back to Ukraine.

On the GoFundMe page, Alexander Katsman notes that Yurii Vakhniak was working in the transportation industry while trying to start his own business after coming to the US.
The growing enterprise, Anastasia Services Incorporated, was named after his daughter. As a result of these efforts, he could not save any money at the time of his death.
