Wright continued to excel during his time at Memphis, participating in the team’s two consecutive NCAA Tournament wins in 1995 and 1996. He then decided to forgo his final two years of college participation and enter the 1996 NBA Draft. Wright was selected seventh overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers.

He spent the first five years of his career with the Clippers before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2001. He played for the Hawks for two seasons before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2003. Wright played for the Grizzlies for five seasons and was known for his strong rebounding and blocking skills.
He also played briefly for the Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers before retiring in 2009. During his career, Wright played a total of 778 NBA games and scored a total of 6,672 points. He also appeared in 15 playoff games and was known for his strong defensive play.

Despite his successful career, Wright faced some controversies and legal problems throughout his life. In 2001, he was involved in a physical altercation with his wife Sherra Wright. She was later charged with first-degree murder in connection with Lorenzen’s death in 2010.

Prior to his murder, Wright was also kidnapped on July 18, 2010, and his body was found days later. The investigation into his death took years, and in 2019, Sherra Wright pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting her ex-husband’s murder. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
