She managed to escape with minor injuries.

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security said the girl was “extremely lucky” to have escaped.

“A crocodile of that size has the potential to cause major, life-threatening injuries,” the department said in a statement.

“This is a timely reminder to always Be Crocwise.

“High water levels during the wet season make it easy for crocodiles to move into areas undetected.

“Crocodiles can inhabit any body of water in the Top End.”

More than 70 crocodiles have been removed by the territory’s crocodile management team this year, some as big as 3.2 metres.
