Mal and Alina share a passionate kiss at the 15-minute mark of episode 1, titled No Shelter But Me. It’s a pivotal moment and the fandom will be talking about it for a long time to come.
The sequence begins 13 minutes into the episode when the pair walk into a bedroom with one double bed and a private bath.
“It all looks so… comfortable,” Alina remarks, taking a seat on the bed. Mal says that Alina can sleep on the bed but she says “don’t be silly, there’s enough room for the both of us, only if you want to?”
They lay on the bed together and start to have a deep conversation before Mal brings up chances he regrets not taking.
“Why not take them now then?” Alina propositions and he finally leans in for a kiss.

‘Real-life experiences are thrown in the mix’
The source material books also show the pair kissing, so those familiar with the novels may be even more glad to see it finally happen on screen.
Speaking of the books, Jessie recently spoke to Screenrant about moving beyond them to sculpt her character.
“It was really interesting to kind of delve into these parts of Alina that weren’t necessarily in the books and were very much brought in by our writers, and lots of real-life experiences are thrown in the mix there,” she explained.
“You can really feel that arc and feel that character growing and changing.”
