Val Kilmer Once Wanted To Be More Than Just Angelina Jolie's Co-Star

2004 film “Alexander” was one of the biggest box office bombs of its time, having only earned a little over $165 million against a $155 million budget. Colin Farrell, who played Alexander the Great in the movie, admitted feeling shameful about the project for years. “I found myself in a place where with everyone I met I wanted to say, ‘Have you seen Alexander? If you have, I’m really sorry,'” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

But Val Kilmer, who played Farrell’s father in the film, had a different recollection of his experience, primarily because he had a massive fixation over his co-star, Angelina Jolie. The “Top Gun” actor wrote in his memoir, “I’m Your Huckleberry,” that before even accepting the role, he told director Oliver Stone that he would only do it “if the king and queen could have flashbacks to falling hard for each other and storming the castle with passion.” And while he insisted that he “was only half kidding,” he was serious about his eagerness to star alongside Jolie — so much so that he wanted to spoil her and share passionate smooches.

“I couldn’t wait to kiss Angie, buy her [a] Gulfstream jet and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the tail,” he penned. “She had recently adopted her first child, Maddox, and the paparazzi were obsessed with this postmodern Madonna, the perfect picture of unapproachable stardom and impossibly chic maternal instinct.”
