'He was really willing': Arteta says Arsenal star risked injury to start vs. Fulham

Mikel Arteta has said that Leandro Trossard could have waited another week to return to the Arsenal starting XI as the Belgian starred for the Gunners in their 3-0 win against Fulham.

Speaking to the press via the Independent, the Arsenal manager revealed that the Belgian international could have been rested for longer after Trossard picked up an injury last weekend against FC Bournemouth, however, the forward was part of the starting XI to face Fulham this weekend.

Moreover, Trossard enjoyed a Man of the Match performance, with the January signing bagging three assists in the opening half to secure a 3-0 win for Arsenal against Fulham, putting the north London back to five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Arteta said about Trossard: “He got three assists and could have scored two. I think he was really impressive. Not only that, he had an injury three days ago which could have taken a week, or another 10 days, but he was really willing to come back early and the doctors and medical staff did a lot of good work.”

With Trossard giving Arsenal fans one of the best individual performances of the season, it’s safe to assume that the Belgian international made the right decision returning to the starting XI early, with the forward playing a key role in the Gunners winning three vital points.

Moreover, Trossard’s display means that the attacker will almost-certainly be available for this week’s UEFA Europa League clash against Sporting Lisbon, an injury boost that could be huge in Arsenal making it to the next round of the competition.

Players can often make reinvigorate injuries by returning to the pitch too soon, yet Trossard is an exception to the rule as the Belgian star’s decision to return early to feature against Fulham was nothing short of a masterstroke, with the forward playing a key role in the 3-0 win.

Whilst Arteta himself could have made the decision to keep Trossard on the bench, the Arsenal boss himself also made the right choice to start the 28-year-old, who could be huge for the Gunners in their final two matches before the international break.
