Emmanuel Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa is a South African politician from Kwa Mbonambi, KwaZulu-Natal, and an ANC member. He was born on January 23, 1967. He served as the National Assembly’s Senior Whip for the ANC.

As a member of President Kgalema Motlanthe’s government following Thabo Mbeki’s resignation, he was appointed Minister for Safety and Security (later known as Minister of Police) on September 25, 2008. He previously held the position of Minister of Police from 2009 to 2014. He is currently the Minister of Arts and Culture.

He was born in 1976 in KwaMashu Township to housewife Maria Magdalena Mthethwa and instructor Abednego Mthethwa. At Durban’s Saint Mary’s Primary School, his paternal grandfather, a native of Cofimvaba, also worked as a teacher. Joseph Michael Ngcobo, his maternal grandpa, was the principal of Ntshenini Primary School (1951–1954) and Petani Primary School (1953-1972). He subsequently went on to become the principal at Bishop Shaw College until he retired in 1972.

Career

Nathi Mthethwa is the incumbent Minister of Police services and Sport and Recreation. Prior to this, he served as the Secretary of Culture. Additionally, since 2004 he has served as a member of parliament for the South African district of Johannesburg West.

He is a well-known political personality in South Africa and has been active since the early 1980s. A political group in South Africa is called the ANC. It was established in 1912 and served as the main opposition force to segregation. It was in power in South Africa from 1994 to 2019 after winning the polls in 1994 and 1999.
