Jürgen Klopp & Rafa Benitez could now unite to form a Liverpool dream team at Anfield - Our View

In our opinion, Jürgen Klopp and Rafa Benitez could now unite to form a Liverpool dream team at Anfield following shock news regarding Julian Ward.

What’s the story?

Well, despite only taking over from Michael Edwards as Director of Football back in the summer, Ward told Liverpool he would be resigning at the end of the season – a decision that shocked the Reds, according to the Guardian.

The Athletic believe Markus Krosche – Director of Football at Eintracht Frankfurt – is an option to replace Ward, although the the 42-year-old has played down talk of a move to Anfield, describing it as pure speculation.

Therefore, we believe Liverpool should consider offering Benitez the role.

The Spaniard is looking for another job in management, and – according to The Athletic – he is keen to work in the Premier League once again.

However, a number of sides – including the likes of Leeds and Southampton – overlooked Benitez, so it seems as if his disastrous time in charge of Everton may be counting against him.

If the 62-year-old continues to face difficulty in his hunt for a manager’s role, we believe he could be a very effective Director of Football alongside Klopp at Liverpool.

Benitez could help Klopp at Liverpool

Benitez boasts significant experience across the top five European leagues, having worked for Liverpool, Napoli, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Valencia and others.

He also has a proven track record in the transfer market, signing gems such as Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano and Dirk Kuyt during his time at Anfield.

Benitez also signed Dries Mertens for Napoli for just €10m (£9m) in a deal from PSV Eindhoven, with the Belgian going on to hit 148 goals for the Italian giants, leapfrogging Diego Maradona to become their all-time top scorer.

It would be a bold move from Liverpool, but if Benitez continues to face issues in his search for another role in management, it could prove to be a masterstroke from Fenway Sports Group.
