Michael Owen reacts as Arsenal win to keep Manchester City at bay

Arsenal have reportedly opened fresh talks with Reiss Nelson over signing a new contract with the club following the winger’s outstanding heroics on the weekend against AFC Bournemouth.

According to the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old will meet with Arsenal to discuss a new contract with Nelson’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season, with the forward scoring a last-second winner for Mikel Arteta’s side against the Cherries on Saturday.

As well as registering an assist for Ben White’s equaliser, Nelson had a cameo to remember as the winger was crucial in Arsenal securing a huge three points having gone 2-0 down at home to Bournemouth, with the Hale End academy product putting on a similar display earlier in the season against Nottingham Forest.

With three goals and two assists from the bench this season, Nelson has been the most productive substitute in the Premier League this campaign despite making just two appearances in the league, with injuries plaguing the youngster despite his incredible form.

As a result, Arsenal are now working hard to get Nelson to sign a new contract amid growing interest from Premier League sides, though as per the report, the winger himself is likely to pen fresh terms with the north London side having been given so much faith from Arteta.

Lauded as ‘incredible’ by Bournemouth manager Gary O’Neil after Saturday’s result, Nelson has proven he can be an excellent option for Arsenal off the bench when fully fit and raring to go, and the winger’s performance against the Cherries should be enough to win the attacker a new deal.

Nelson’s Premier League season with Arsenal has been as spectacular as it has been unusual, with the attacker playing just twice yet earning the Gunners six points off the back of his goal contributions, and the north London side must act fast to secure the youngster to a new contract.

Arsenal were in a similar position with Eddie Nketiah last season as the striker’s contract was running out before the forward played a key role for the club in coming close to a fourth-place finish, and Nelson is doing the same with a huge performance against Bournemouth to secure a massive three points.
