Liverpool v Man United: Pundit says Alexander-Arnold has not learned from his mistakes since 2019

As Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, pundit Dean Saunders has blasted Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Paul Merson also said that the £160,000-a-week defender is the Reds’ weak link, as he focused on how the in-form Marcus Rashford could give the England international a headache defensively. All eyes will be on that very battle, especially considering how poor the 24-year-old has been this season.

Now, pundit Dean Saunders has done the same, while criticising Trent Alexander-Arnold for not ironing out his defensive mistakes from years ago when he faced Manchester United.

Pundit Dean Saunders slates Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester United

The ‘unbelievable’ Champions League winner has often struggled to defend in 1v1 situations against skilful wingers, with Michael Owen referring to his recent displays as ‘really shaky.’

As Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be slated for his suspect defending, pundit Dean Saunders has tore into the Liverpool superstar as well ahead of his side’s much-awaited battle against Manchester United.

“5 years ago [2019], we watched Marcus Rashford cut inside of Trent Alexander-Arnold and I thought, ‘okay, well, he’s 19, we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, he’ll learn from that.’ But I’m sorry to say, he just hasn’t seemed to have learnt”, he said on talkSPORT.

Huge chance for Trent Alexander-Arnold to silence his doubters

Whether Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold agrees or not with pundit Dean Saunders, it remains indisputable that he could convince several of his critics about his defensive ability by stepping up to the plate against Manchester United.

After all, Marcus Rashford is one of, if not the most in-form player in Europe currently.

If the decorated full-back manages to tame the electric left winger during Sunday’s clash, that would be nothing short of a statement performance, as his reputation is perhaps at an all-time low currently.
