Ellie Goulding Said She Was ‘Made To Feel Like A Terrible Person’

Goulding recently discussed the trauma she went through as a result of past allegations that she had an affair with Niall Horan while she was linked with Ed Sheeran.
“It’s fascinating how many people are interested in that. It happened nine years ago,” she told Daily Mail in an interview on Sunday, per People. “You know, completely honestly, it caused me a lot of trauma, actually.”
The rumors recently resurfaced following the singer posting a TikTok video of herself dancing along to Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
A fan penned in the comment section, “Can’t believe u cheated on Ed with Niall, but slay fr (for real).” Goulding responded by refuting the claim saying, “False!!!!! But also slay.”
While the singer admitted to the outlet that she was “really drunk” when she replied to the fan, she shared that at the height of the rumors, she was “made to feel like a terrible person,” despite being aware that people’s opinions of her on the subject were false.
Ellie Goulding Denied Relationship With Ed Sheeran

The rumors Goulding referred to surfaced in 2014 with the release of Sheeran’s song “Don’t.” At the time, there were speculations that Goulding, who had been seen out with Horan several times, inspired the song.
In 2015, the “Love Me Like You Do” hitmaker admitted to going out with Horan but emphatically refuted ever being in a relationship with Sheeran.

“I did go on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed,” she told ELLE UK in an interview, per People. “I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”
She echoed the same sentiment during her 2016 cover story interview with Seventeen, describing the nature of her relationship with the “Perfect singer.
“We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other, and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m dating them,” Goulding said about Sheeran. “We were never in a relationship.”
‘It Changed Things For Me’

However, regardless of Goulding’s best efforts to squash the rumors and move on, her career suffered a negative impact, and she vanished for a while from the music scene.
She returned in 2020 to release her album, “Brightest Blue,” having previously dropped “Delirium” in 2015. Fast-forward to 2023, Goulding said that things are looking up but that the pain of the experience has yet to fizzle out.
“I can laugh about it now, but it changed things for me,” Goulding told the Daily Mail. “I became kind of reclusive. I didn’t want to perform. That’s why I wrote that comment [on TikTok] because every day I get comments about this stupid teenage situation. It was nothing, and it was private – and it caused me such a huge amount of grief and I resent it.”
The mother of one, who shares a son, Arthur, with her husband, Jopling, added that she has no grudges against Sheeran. She remarked, “It is in the past, and we’re friends. We’re adults.”
Ellie Goulding’s New Album
Goulding is set to drop a new album for fans, which will debut on March 24 across music platforms, per the New York Post.
Titled “Higher Than Heaven,” all the details about the names of the songs are yet to be known, although it is claimed that the project has a track that was inspired by the singer and her husband’s sex life.
The X-rated single is titled “Waiting For It.” It reportedly has risqué lyrics like, “We can f–k the world away, I’ve been reconditioned into new positions” and “Pouring you in my cup, let it drip on my fingers / But it’s never enough, I want it again.”
According to the publication, Goulding described the upcoming album as “about being passionately in love. But it’s a hyper form of love, almost like a drug-induced feeling.”
