Senior manager of festival programming at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Ravi Srinivasan passed away. It is coming forward that he died over the weekend at the age of 37. Ever since the news surfaced on the internet, tributary posts and condolence messages poured in for him. Everyone is paying him heartfelt tributes as no one seems to believe the fact that Ravi has breathed his last at such a mere age. Paying homage to Srinivasan, TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said that they are saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of their colleague and friend. He went on to write that as a programmer, champion for filmmakers, and director of his own hometown film festival in Sarnia, Ontario, Ravi was known for his generosity, passion, and the joy he brought to cinema. Bailey was devastated by the passing of Ravi, to say the least.

The CEO further praised Ravi’s deep knowledge of cinema and his passion for film as an inclusive art from helped transform film culture in Canada. Apart from him, other personalities, who knew and admired Ravi, came forward and paid him sincere respects and tributes. National Canadian Film also posted on their official Twitter account that the entire Reel Canada team is shattered to learn of the sudden death of their friend and colleague Ravi Srinivasan.

“From the time Ravi started working with them over a decade ago, they knew he was a force to be reckoned with.”, added the post further. Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, with Indian and Filipino cultural roots. Srinivasan studied film and English literature at Wilfrid Laurier. It is reported that Shrinivasan studied at Sheridan College. At Hot Docs, he was an international programmer, the founder, and executive director of the South Western International Film Festival, and senior programmer of National Canadian Film Day.

Srinivasan has been contributing to the TIFF programming team since 2013 and was senior manager of festival programming with a focus on programming feature films from South Asia, the Phillippines, and, Canada at the time of his unfortunate death that has left everyone in shatters.
