Authorities on Friday removed what appeared to be bloody mattresses from the Moscow, Idaho, house where four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death, Fox News reports.
Photographers captured a crew carrying out mattresses and putting them on the beds of pick-up trucks. The mattresses were wrapped in covers, but dark stains were visible on at least one of the mattresses underneath, according to images posted by the Daily Mail.
The crew, believed to be associated with the Idaho State Police, also took out several boxes, materials in garbage bags and furniture, including what appeared to be a desk with blood stains.
Brian Kohberger, 28, is accused of murdering Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin in the early morning hours of November 13 at the residence on King Road, near the University of Idaho campus.
Police arrested Kohberger on December 30 at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania and extradited him back to Idaho, where he is being held without bond.
Last week, a judge ordered the government to continue preserving the home so that Kohberger’s defense team could conduct its own analyses of the scene. Investigators for the defense were seen on Tuesday at the house.
The court order preserving the scene remains in place, but it does not prohibit the government from removing items in the house if the defense also can access them, according to the Daily Mail.

Kohberger was a criminology Ph.D. student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, just a short drive from Moscow.
Investigators allege that Kohberger’s DNA was found on a knife sheath left at the house and that phone records indicate he was in the vicinity of the home dozens of times before the slayings, even though his phone went silent around the time the victims were killed.
Prosecutors have charged Kohberger with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary with intent to commit murder. He faces life in prison or the death penalty if convicted.
