Police have launched an investigation after a two-year-old died suddenly on Thursday night.

Detectives from Mackay Child Protection Investigation Unit are investigating the sudden death of the child in North Mackay.

The deceased child was taken to Mackay Base Hospital on Thursday night around 8.30pm.

It’s believed hospital emergency staff alerted police to the toddler’s state. 

In a statement police said an autopsy will be conducted to establish cause of death.

‘Investigations are ongoing and there is no further information available at this time,’ police stated.
