The prosecutor’s office has opened a murder investigation.

Anti-terrorism prosecutors are investigating the shooting, but haven’t indicated any sign of a terrorist motive.

Police cordoned off the area in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital, Strasbourg-Saint Denis, and authorities have asked for people to stay away from the area in Rue d’Enghien.

“It’s total panic, we’ve locked ourselves in,” a shopkeeper told news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP).
