The derby descended into chaos after hundreds of Melbourne Victory supporters ran onto the field at AAMI Park at the 20-minute mark of the game.

Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover was left bleeding from the head after being struck with a metal bucket. He received treatment at AAMI Park for a concussion before being transported to hospital.

Referee Alex King, match officials and camera-operators were also targeted in the attack.

These incidents are being investigated by police.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the behaviour of the fans was “disappointing”.

The spokesperson said supporters left the field after a short period of time and the crowd left the stadium.

“There were no other incidents reported to police and at this stage no arrests have been made,” they said.

The A-League men’s game was between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory was abandoned.

Moments before the incident, fans from both clubs threw flares onto the pitch, but when Glover hurled a flare back into the Victory fans area, it triggered the angry spectators to storm the field.
