Three people, including two police officers, have been killed in a shooting at a rural Queensland property.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said a manhunt was underway for two offenders.

What we know so far

  • The shooting took place at property on Wains Road at Wieambilla, about 300km west of Brisbane. Wieambilla is in the Western Downs region of the state, close to Chinchilla.
  • Police issued an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) just after 6pm AEST (7pm AEDT). The first public alert was issued at 6.11pm.
  • Four police officers had been sent to the property. Two were killed at the scene. A third officer suffered a bullet graze and was taken to hospital.A fourth officer managed to escape and was also being treated, Carroll said.
  • The reason for the shooting is not known. The offenders have not yet been apprehended. The police officers were at the property in relation to a missing person report from NSW.
  • Queensland police will make another statement in the morning.
