Human remains have been uncovered under a Brisbane unit complex, sparking a potential homicide investigation.

A member of the public discovered the remains under an Alderley Ave unit complex in Brisbane’s north on Wednesday morning.

Investigations are underway to determine the identity of the remains and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police have declined to elaborate on the condition of the remains or the cause of death.

A crime scene has been declared, with forensic officers scouring the scene.

‘Investigations are underway to determine the identity of the person located, and the circumstances of their death,’ police said in a statement.

‘There is no further information available at this stage. Investigations are ongoing.’

The complex around 50 metres from Alderley Plaza and a Coles supermarket.

According to property records, the complex is owned by Brisbane Housing Company.

The firm is an independent not-for-profit charity which says it supplies affordable rental accommodation.

‘Since the organisation’s incorporation in 2002, we have developed more than 1800 homes in key growth locations and assisted more than 7,000 households to access safe and secure housing,’ its website states.
