Obituary: According to her online obituary dated Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Courtney Kampa passed away unexpectedly as a result of a fatal automobile accident. However, the cause of death was not disclosed.
Courtney Kampa was born and raised in Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University.
A Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, her debut novel The Lady Who Asks No Why (2017), by Mary Szybist, has been selected as the first issue in a new issue of Press Book Award. Her poetry has appeared in magazines such as The Boston Review, Three Quarterly, and Best New Poets.
Courtney Kampa won the 2014 Rattle Poetry Award Readers’ Choice Award and was shortlisted for the 2016 Ruth Lilly Prize.
