MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLS) — Montgomery police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in the far west suburb early Friday morning.

Police said officers responded just before 5:25 a.m. to the 1200-block of Lebanon Street on the East Side of the village for a report of an unresponsive person in a driveway.

The individual was pronounced dead on arrival from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.

He was identified as Robert Teekell, 19, by the Kane County Coroner’s office. His preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound. Toxicology results are pending.

“The lady was screaming,” neighbor Daniel Rupert said. “I thought it was an argument.”

Friends and relatives were seen coming to the house all day, though none were willing to share details of what they believe happened to cause the shooting.

Police have said they do not believe there is a threat to the neighborhood. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything to come forward.

Neighbors said there are typically very few problems on this block and they have no idea what might have led to the shooting. Most neighbors said they did not know the victim well.

“I just sometimes wave at them,” Rupert said. “That’s about it.”

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the Montgomery Police Department are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Sgt. Greg Mayyou at 331-212-9091 or by email at mayyou@ci.montgomery.il.us.
