  • The man, 24, allegedly threatened two strangers in Spencer St, Melbourne

A man has been arrested in dramatic scenes after he allegedly terrified two people by threatening them with a handmade gun in front of shocked onlookers in the heart of Melbourne

Police rushed to the scene in Spencer Street in the CBD shortly before 10am on Friday following reports of an altercation between a man and two people not known to him.

It’s believed the man allegedly threatened the two strangers with a homemade firearm, police said.

‘The victims, who were not injured during the incident, were able to raise the alarm and call police,’ a statement read.

Police arrested the man in nearby Elizabeth Street a short time later.

Officers  allegedly found a homemade firearm in his possession, which was seized.

The man, 24, of no fixed address is assisting police with their inquiries as investigations continues
