In January 2016, the Padres third baseman posted a selfie on Instagram showing off a new tattoo of her face. It takes up most of the space on the inside of his right forearm and shows a flower in full bloom.

Early years

On August 27, 2010, Machado made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast League Orioles. He went 0-for-3 and struck out in his first game. He was the player who was in charge of hitting. In his second game with the Orioles, Machado hit his first home run as a pro. On August 30, 2010, Machado played his first game with the Low-A Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York–Penn League. At the start of the 2011 season, Machado played shortstop for the Delmarva Shorebirds. On August 9, against the Kansas City Royals, the Orioles brought Machado up from Double-A Bowie Baysox to Major League Baseball. Since the team already had J. J. Hardy at shortstop, he started at third base. The next day, he hit his first and second home runs against the same team. This made him the youngest Oriole and the 12th youngest player in major league history to hit two home runs in the same game. Luke Hochevar, who used to be the first player picked in the draft, hit both home runs. Then, on August 12, he hit his third home run against Bruce Chen. Machado hit his first home run in the postseason in Game 3 of the 2012 ALDS. The New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles in five games to win the division series.
At the end of his first season, Machado had played in all 51 remaining Orioles games. He hit.262 with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 26 RBI, and two stolen bases in 202 plate appearances. He had 50 hits and 24 runs scored.
