A woman has died after she fell from her mobility scooter and was struck by a train in Melbourne’s south-east.

The 56-year-old, who lived with disabilities, was in a mobility scooter on the platform at Ormond Station just before 10am.

It is believed she accidently fell onto the tracks, just before a train came through the station.

Acting Senior Sergeant Rowan Epstein has said police believed the woman had gone too close to the edge of the platform and had fallen out of her scooter.

“The information we’ve received is that is in an act of misadventure, an accidental act where she’s gone too close to the edge and tipped into the platform,” he said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police.
