Police in southwestern Idaho are investigating the death of an infant girl found dead inside a hot car on Saturday.

According to ABC 8, the incident happened in New Plymouth, which is around 50 miles northwest of Boise. Police received a call at around 5:15 p.m. from the parents of the child, who claimed they had forgotten her inside the car.

First responders rushed the baby, described as being under a year old, to a Boise hospital where she was pronounced dead. An official cause of death hasn’t been revealed. Idaho State Police are currently investigating.

Payette County Sheriff Andrew Creech told the Idaho Statesman that it’s unclear how long the baby was left in the car.

According to the National Weather Services, Southwest Idaho temperatures on Saturday reached 99 degrees.
