The man was using a chainsaw in Meadow Flat, which lies between Bathurst and Lithgow, when he became trapped under a large section of a tree and could not get out.

The man, in his 40s, suffered lower back injuries and was airlifted to Sydney’s Westmead Hospital by an ambulance helicopter.

“This was a challenging scene given the patient was trapped by a large section of tree and unable to free himself,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Ron Gavin said.

“Our special operations paramedic along with Police and SES rescue were able to free him and paramedics then treated him for lower back injuries.

“Cutting down trees and using chainsaws can be dangerous.

“It’s important that all safety procedures are followed.”

Multiple ambulance crews were called to respond to the incident.
