Mum-to-be Alana Russell was stroller training her pug cross Yodi in Padstow, in Sydney’s south-west, on Monday when another dog lunged.
The German shepherd latched onto the smaller animal and shook it in its mouth before letting it go.
“The vet says he is lucky to be alive,” Russell told 9News.
“It was frightening because you don’t want to get hurt yourself, but you are trying to manage that situation and trying to protect your dog at the same time.”
She said the situation was made worse by the other owner’s alleged refusal to even acknowledge the attack, and Canterbury-Bankstown Council is investigating.
“I’m making a personal plea for the dog owner to come forward because we are investigating this matter,” Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour.
“It was a dog this time, it could be a baby next time – something we can’t tolerate,” he added.
Phenomenal animal rescues
If the owner is tracked down they will have to pay Yodi’s $300 vet bill, and will have to explain what happened to the council.
