A Texas toddler abducted from her parents’ apartment overnight Saturday was rescued from a motel where the suspect had her on Sunday.

Houston police say they had to break into the motel room and that suspect Holman Hernandez put up a fight at about 2 p.m. when they found him, thanks to a neighbor who helped identify him.

Investigators say, however, they don’t believe their was any connection between Hernandez, 50, and the family of the 3-year-old girl, KTRK reports.

The girl’s parents reported her missing early Sunday, saying they’d gone to bed at about 11 p.m. and woke up about 5:30 a.m. to find their door open and the little girl missing. Authorities issued an Amber Alert.

Officers canvased the neighborhood, and one neighbor described a man they saw with the little girl. Then they found the suspect’s car parked at the motel, just minutes away from the girl’s home. Management said Hernandez checked in about 7:30 a.m.

Officers surround the motel and then breached the room door. Hernandez was arrested, and the toddler was taken to a hospital for a medical exam.

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said results of the exam would determine the charges.
