She was born in California, America in 1976-77 in an African American family. Her childhood was normal and she graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School which was located in Oakland, California around the year 1993.

Then, she pursued a major in History at Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She graduated in 1997. After graduating, she worked in Washington DC for two whole years but then decided to attend Stanford Law School.

She graduated from that institution in 2002 and clerked at a Federal District Court in San Francisco, she again worked there for 2 years before joining a law firm. There, her main focus was on security and intellectual property.
